Project 2: Themed Scene-Based Modeling

For this project, I have chosen Japanese concept building because I have seen the example online as I love it so much!! Therefore I decided to go for it and look for more similar examples. Here are some visual references I have found online:
Fig 2.1 Visual References, Week 10 (30/11/25)

Firstly, I started by building the base of the stall, which is the roof and the main structure of it. The stall will have the front counter table to serve the customer and the kitchen at the back with the curtain cover at the side.

After that, I have done the basic colouring of every item and some materials settings. I decided to make the overall colour tone to be warm and wood texture so it has a more Japanese style.

Besides that, since the stall is beside the road, I have also modelled a bicycle so it looked more like a roadside little stall. I have looked for a bicycle blueprint online and modelled according to it.

Moreover, I have proceeded on adding more stuffs in the kitchen to make it more realistic and lifelike like chopsticks, pot, plates and also words on the chalkboard putting beside the stall.

Furthermore, I continue to work on the details everywhere I could, like the pipes, the basket at the bicycle and textures on the wood board.

I feel like it’s too dark at the bench area beside the stall, I decided to add a bamboo street lamp which I have searched for tutorial online. After I have modelled the structure, I did the colouring and texture using the shading node and put the light source in the lamp.

Lastly, I have done the lighting in the lantern and the rooftop accordingly with different temperature and intensity of light. Originally I have faced the issue of light passing through the rooftop, but after I have changed the render engine this problem has been solved.

Feedback

I have asked Mr Kamal about my issue on why the light is passing through the ceiling as it will looked weird. Mr Kamal suggested that changing a render engine which is from EEVEE to Cycles and this actually solve my problem. Other than that, Mr Kamal also advised me to increse the strength of the light.

Reflection

This is also one of my favourite assignment because I managed to build my own building and it looked so nice I love it so much and I feel like it is my baby. I really put a lot of effort on it and take a lot of time to improvise it. I am so glad that it looked exactly the same as what I have imagined.

I actually struggled a lot of which styles of building I should make because I don’t feel like doing any type of building examples provided by Mr Kamal. After exploring through various types of building, I have selected Japanese style building.
