Project 1: Instructable Infographic Poster

For project 1, we are assigned to choose one recipe from Pasta Grannies. We have to examine a single video, dissect the steps for preparation and cooking, and organize them into an instructive poster. Aim to capture each Grandma's distinct personality and the unique identity of their dish within the narrative framework of the poster. Here is the video I have selected:

After finish watching the video, I have gather and type the recipe that involves ingredients and steps into a document.

Other than that, I have also take some screenshots of the video and downloaded some photos of the ingredients needed as references for me to draw.

I have also found some visual references on Pinterest and the art style that I wanted to have is mainly hand drawn style with colourful theme.

After I have confirmed the direction of my artstyle, I started by constructing the assets in Adobe Photoshop. I wanted to create the graphic elements that are like painting textxure. Therefore, I uses the dry paint brush option in Adobe Photoshop.

Here are all the final assets created:

Before I started with the layout progression, I have done two sketches which are portrait and landscape. At first, Mr Shamsul suggested us to use portrait layout but after that he said we can do in the way that we feel more appropriate so I have chosen the landscape layout as I think it fits my infographic better.

I progressed with the layout by starting to input all the assets that I have created and added the arrows, contexts and details to complete this infographic.

Finally, I have finished my instructable infographic poster by imputing all the information and details about the recipe using the assests that I have drawn. Here are the final outcome of my infographic poster.

Project 2: Animated Infographic

Prior to animating, I developed layouts to outline the scenes of the animated infographic. Ensuring alignment with my poster, I organized the categorized steps (preparing gnocchi, pesto, and cooking process) into individual scenes.

Thus, I have imported all the psd files of the assets into After Effects. Here are the progressions of animation:

Below are some examples of the steps' animations, I have animated them in different scenes and compile them together aftwerwards.

Besides that, I have chosen a suitable background music for it and also several sound effects that suits the steps such as chopping, boiling and stirring.

Feedback

Project 1: Mr Shamsul think that overall that is not much problem on my layout or design of Project 1, just that the symbol A, B and C seems a bit not align with the overall theme, so I have change it with transparent backgroud. Besides that, I have also improve on the title based on Mr Shamsul's feedback which is enlarge the word "Gnocchi" and change the background in to a ribbon shape.

Project 2: Mr Shamsul suggested that I could extend the duration of each scene, which means that pause 2 to 3 seconds in a single frame so that it would not be too fast. Besides that, he adviced me to enlarge the word at the last scene which is "Enjoy!" so that it looks more "enjoyable".

Reflection

In project 1, I find it challenging to include all information about the recipe together within a slide. However, by refering to the layout examples online, I able to arrange all the steps accordingly and nicely.

Before I try to illustrate out the assets, I thought it will be hard but actually it was not that difficult and I think it was fun and interesting while illustrating out all the graphics. I really enjoy the process of drawing out all the steps.

Other than that, I have learned that while designing the infographic, I should consider on the audiences' side also as it might be hard for them to understand without clear labelling.
